The Wauwatosa School District PLTW Club website is

This is one of the
Partner activities and it has been active since August, 2010. It is constantly
being updated so please feel free to bookmark it for future updates.
The purpose of the website and this newsletter is to
inform students, parents and business partners about the positive things which
are happening with Science Technology Engineering Science (STEM) in the
Wauwatosa School District. |

PLTW PartnersThank all the partners for a great
year in 2010-2011. They are are shown on the right hand side of this newsletter
and on the website. Many of the partners have renewed for this year and we also
have new partners which have been added to the list.
Please support
these partners because they are actively supporting the PLTW movement within
the Wauwatosa School District.
The new partners for 2011-2012 are:
- Rockwell Automation
who supported two rookie teams for Whitman Middle school and two
for Wauwatosa Stem.
- Marquette University
which is actively working with Wauwatosa STEM and they are one of
the National Engineering Week T-Shirt Sponsors.
- Lions Club of Wauwatosa
who is
partially funding the Wauwatosa West Rube Goldberg Team this year.
- Home Depot
graciously donated some of the materials for our First LEGO
competition tables which Jerry Merz built for Whitman and Longfellow Middle
School.
- Jeff and Diane Roznowski
The Partner Committee is a blend of teachers,
engineers and parents whose purpose is to share and promote STEM within the
Wauwatosa School District.

Wauwatosa School District FIRST LEGO Program
Wauwatosa School District was well represented this
year at the Waukesha South Regional First LEGO competition:
- Whitman Middle School - 2 teams, 14777 and 14780
sponsored by Rockwell International

- Longfellow Middle School - 3 teams, 7102:
Longfellow Devourers 10146: Longfellow Robo Geeks inc. 10147: Longfellow
Devastators
- Lincoln Grade School - 1 team
- McKinley Grade School - 2 teams
Waukesha Patch Article on the competition.
Wauwatosa STEM grade school located in Wilson Elementary is current working on
two teams next year as part of the curriculum. They are sponsored by Rockwell
International as well.
All the teams were rookie teams except for one of
the McKinley teams. All the coaches were very please by the performance and
many of the teams are continuing their work with the students on improving
skills which will be needed for next years competition.
Whitman #14780
did not place but made the alternate list for State this year. The Wisconsin
State First LEGO League Championship, to be held from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Dec. 11 in Mukwonago at the Mukwonago High School and is open to the
public. Judges awarded the Rising Start Award to Longfellow Team 7102 -
Egg-Spurts . |

Wauwatosa West Rube Goldberg Team Program
As part of the Wauwatosa West PLTW Club first
activities, Wauwatosa West students are entering the 2012 National Rube
Goldberg Competition - High School Division. It is partially sponsored by the
Wauwatosa Lions Club. We are currently looking for additional sponsors as
well as engineering mentors. Our current sponsors are:
What is it?:This contest will give your
students a chance to use everyday material and transform it into a wacky
innovative machine that accomplishes the given task. Their own wild and
ingenious inventions will provide a learning adventure in science, technology,
engineering, arts and math. (STEAM). The only limits on creativity will be
their imaginations. 2012 problem is: Blow up a balloon and pop it!

Science participation up throughout Tosa public schools STEM
offerings continue to attract students' attention ... |

2012 National Engineering Week, February 19-25,
2012 Engineers Week 2012 highlight this
year's theme "7 Billion Dreams."
The 2012 National
Engineering Week is celebrated on February 19-25, 2012. The Wauwatosa School
District PLTW Partner team is currently planning a large celebration of the
event. If you would like to be on the committee, please contact
Bill Anderson, Supervisor,
Student Learning.

Wauwatosa East and Wauwatosa
West Project Lead The Way (PLTW) students are celebrating the 60th year of
National Engineering Week. Several companies have helped by purchasing T-Shirts
with the National Engineering Week logo on the front and their logos on the
back of the T-Shirts for every student. They are:

Company (currently upgrading the subsystem in the County grounds), Gross Automation
